There is certainly an air of excitement surrounding what most would consider a rather mundane event.
- However, there is also a sense of loss that seems equally absurd.
I’m not talking about having a kid leave for college or anything like that. I am referring to the new HVAC unit we are getting installed in the coming days. I love the fact that we are going to have consistent, efficient heating and cooling in this house once again. Well, probably far more efficient given the leaps in HVAC technology. However, I really sort of feel like there should be some sort of acknowledgement for the old heating and cooling unit. That thing did us right from the time we moved in to this house. The previous owners put that HVAC system in months before we bought the place. And, it has done great ever since. Much of that has to be attributed to the fact that we have been all in on the preventive maintenance. We always have the heating and cooling pros come out to service the system twice a year. Heat is the heavy lifting for the HVAC systems around here. I like to have the HVAC checked out in the early spring and again after the summer heat is gone. This plan has obviously worked because that old HVAC system is in its 23rd year. But, the last few years saw the inevitable spike in utility cost as it had to run more to keep up. We brought in the HVAC contractor to figure out the replacement last year. Now, that old warrior is about to get yanked out of here. I’m happy to have the new one in its place but, I have to say that I am sad to see it go.
