Some people just don't get what an emergency is

Certain people have a very bizarre definition of “emergency.” There are a lot of people who I refer to as being entitled, who recognize that any inconvenience to them should be an emergency.

  • This reflects a culture of self-absorption plus narcissistic avarice, however when these entitled people have the money it takes I have no choice but to help them out… As an example, if it is the dead of winter, the temps outside are below freezing, plus your oil heating equipment breaks down, that is definitely an emergency! If it is the middle of the evening plus your air conditioner equipment stops cooling the locale down to 73 degrees, that is not an emergency in the slightest, however it’s for this reason I have a sliding scale for what I charge on my Heating, Ventilation & A/C equipment services.

It honestly depends on who it is, what it is, plus when it is. If a single of my proper customers has an oil furnace malfunction, it doesn’t matter when it is, I will hustle over there plus charge the normal rate. On the other hand, if some snowbirds call me super late at evening hours because they recognize the AC equipment might be a little overheated, I will charge them triple the normal rate plus not even feel terrible about it. One thing I have managed to learn is that for rich folks, they most often don’t mind paying extra for Heating, Ventilation & A/C equipment service, perhaps because they don’t know any better at all. Like I said, the word emergency means unusual things to unusual folks, however my time plus Heating, Ventilation & A/C experience is truly valuable, so I will keep overcharging these people until I retire.
